Are there any American made logo watches supplier in the US?
The short and sweet answer to the question is — “NO”
With this in mind, let’s get to the bottom of it…
As there is always a demand for ‘Made in America’ in today’s promotional market the question related to Logo Watchmaker in the USA is raised from time to time.
Manufacturing Logo watches are not defined by simply printing a logo on the dial or assembling watch parts to qualify watches to been labeled “Made in the USA” (Made in America).
Lets first take a look at SWISS watches and the labeling as such.
➀ Swiss-made watches are timepieces which are been assembled, inspected, controlled and certified by a Swiss authorized company in Switzerland, featuring a Swiss movement. Swiss-made watches are almost completely made in China, but just enough of the watch (by cost) and assembly has been done in Switzerland to qualify for the label. This is 60% of the total production cost.
So, some Swiss dude who merely inspects the watch along with the cost of the off-the-shelf Swiss movement could easily represent 60% of the cost.
The movement must still contain at least 50% Swiss-made components in the value (not in quantity) and at least 60% of the movement’s production must be generated in Switzerland. In addition, it also specifies that the technical development of a ‘Swiss Made’ watch and movement must be carried out in Switzerland (Stand Jan. 2017).
The other part of the cost ( ca 40%) going to the case, the dial, the crystal,
the hands, the bracelet, etc. — these parts are made in China.
Many big Swiss brands are gaming the system to the absolute
maximum possible, generating big profits.
➁ Swiss movement watches are watches that have the Swiss movement and can be assembled anywhere in the world.
Now that we have the watch industry labeling standard inspected and out of the way. . . let’s have a look at America.
➟ In the US a watch can only be designated “Made in the USA” if all
or nearly all of its parts are sourced from the US.
“As the main part of any watch is not the dial but the movement any watches which claims the mark of made in America must have an American designed & created movement in the first place”.
As of today, there is no American watch made movement been featured or produced for the U.S. Promotional Industry.
Any statement which says otherwise is just a misleading marketing tactic and is not supported by the FTC either. Assembling and/or printing a logo on the dial does not qualify to label this process “Made in America”. Period!!
So be aware of any company that makes such a claim.
Hence, you will NEVER find a promotional Logo Watch which carries a “Made in America” or “Made in the USA” on the dial.
