What are idioms and how do we use them?

Idioms can have a figurative meaning and sometimes one can have a literal meaning.  There are estimated to be at least 25,000 idiomatic expressions in the English language.  

‘Raining cats and dogs’ is being used to describe the intense of the weather condition when it’s raining very heavily and buckets of water falling from the sky. You’ve heard it many times before – don’t you?

It just goes strait into our memory bank – like a short story.


You can use idioms in business, and in marketing and public relations (PR) very successful – to emphasize a point or make it more memorable.
